It was almost 60 degrees (15 degrees C) when I left home, but it was well below freezing when I arrived in Brussels this morning. Although I usually try to stay awake when I first arrive, it was so dark and gray that I decided to take a nap first. Eventually the sun came out and I went for a little walk in the city center, though the cold and wind drained the power quickly from the batteries of my point-and-shoot camera and made it a little uncomfortable.
Last fall when I was here, I posted some photos of the main square of the city, the Grand-Place. The light was so beautiful today that I decided to post another shot of one of the buildings on that square, the city hall building. The perspective lines are distorted, but I think you can see how beautiful the building is. I am also including a photo of the bell tower of one of the churches here. It is considerably less ornate than the buildings on the Grand-Place, but I find it equally captivating.

Oooh… blue skies!! Haven’t seen that for a LONG time… ;o). Great pics!
Thanks. The day certainly didn’t start that way, but it was a nice treat. Something about blue skies lifts my spirits.
Are you in Brussels again!! Make a stop over in Amsterdam! 🙂
If I were here any longer, I’d actually consider making the trek. Perhaps if I am here in the spring when the weather is nicer, I’ll visit Amsterdam too. By then I’m sure I’ll have a new camera to travel with. I got a little frustrated with the limitations of my old Canon A620 yesterday when I tried to get some shots of birds. Maybe an SX50?
I’m using my SX50 when travelling (and sometimes at home too) and I’m really happy with it. It’s light, small and has a good zoom. If you swing by Amsterdam you can borrow mine to try it out. 😉
I wonder how long they spend to built this intricate Architectural!
It is amazing. A substantial part of it was built in the 1400’s (Wikipedia says the original part was built from 1402-1420), but some additions were made over the years.
Take almost 20 years to construct a building! Wow!
I think you’d be happy with the SX50 Mike, as long as you didn’t plan on doing too much macro photography. I have the SX40 and am reall happy with it.
That’s the strangest thing about cameras–one size doesn’t fit all. I took some photos here of flowers in macro mode on my Canon A620 and it’s supposed to be able to focus as close as one centimeter, which is pretty close. I may post a couple of them.
European buildings are so much more attractive than American ones.
There is a definite charm. Of course, we don’t have buildings that were built starting in 1401, which was the case for the city hall building.
