As I glanced down at the dark waters of the pond last Thursday at Huntley Meadows Park, a damselfly couple (Orange Bluets (Enallagma signatum), I think) flew by in tandem and I snapped this shot. I love how it looks like we are peering into a night sky, watching the damselflies fly past the celestial bodies of the Milky Way.
I couldn’t help but think about the opening title sequence from the Star Wars movies that begins with the words, “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….”

Amazing.
I usually drift to ‘space the final front ear’ just to test Mr. Spock’s sense of humor. Great shot Mike. And I do agree on your reaction. I just drift quickly in a punny direction.
Wow. Nature’s looking glass into…the stars.
That’s a great photo, Mike. Quick thinking on your part paid off.
Thanks, Dan. This was one of those photos that I doubt many people would even think of taking and, to be honest, I didn’t imagine that it would come out looking the way that it did. My approach is to take a shot even if I know the subject is too far away or may not seem interesting. I have been surprised more often than not at what turns out.
Nice Mike! Very interesting image!
Neato, Mike!

Nicely seen and imagined, Mike. I did something similar “a long time ago in a galaxy far far away” under different circumstances. Star in an Algal Galaxy. We’ll have to debate whether frost or damselflies are more interesting. I’ve got to say the conditions for yours were definitely more comfortable than for mine…-4°F . 🙂
Thanks, Steve. With all of the heat and humidity that we have experienced this summer, a touch of frigid weather might feel good. I checked out your galaxy and loved the green coloration of your Algal Galaxy.
Thanks, Mike. My knees actually melted the ice I was kneeling on and then the denim of my now jeans refroze. I almost couldn’t get up. 🙂 I should post a few winter shots during the next heat wave. 🙂
Great find Michael !
Thanks, Rudi.
Nice! One of my favorite musical scores and movies. 🙂
🙂 I was a big fan of the original movies, but never really got caught up in all of the prequels and related stories.
Same here, they didn’t have the George Lucas magic. Different movies, different generation.
That’s fun and imaginative! 😀
My mind works in weird ways some of the time…ok, maybe most of the time. 🙂
‘Weird and wonderful’ are often paired, you do lots of wonderful 🙂
