I generally do not like to take “traditional” selfies. When I do photograph myself, I prefer shots like these ones that I captured early in the morning last Thursday at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. When the sun is low, the shadows are so elongated, as in the first photo, that they remind me of Alberto Giacometti’s famous statue “L’homme qui marche” (The Walking Man).

Long Tall Mike!
Just don’t call me “Sally.” π
I almost did π
I’ve taken exactly one selfie in my life, and it involves a shadow, too. Until I looked at it just now, I hadn’t realized that the shadow of the tree next to me looks rather like a person, with its ‘hands’ on its ‘hips.’ Maybe it was seeing your Giacometti shadow that influenced my perception!
Shadows can be wonderful and I try to include them in my photos whenever I can, though it is not usually my own shadow. π
Me and my shadow … I love shadow selfies, and look for opportunities to capture find interesting backgrounds.
Interesting πΈ
LOL These are great. Consider also: sneaking a selfie of a reflection in a window.
Thanks. I like your suggestion. π
Very cool perspectives!
Thanks. It’s fun to play around a bit sometimes and I love the ever-changing look of shadows–sometimes an accurate mirror image and sometimes really distorted.
