This past Monday was a wonderful day for eagles. In addition to the young eagle whose photos I posted earlier, I also managed to capture these images of a mature Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) perched on a dead tree in the marsh.

Beautiful pattern in his feathers!
Excellent!
Wow! Museum perfect.
Thanks, Victor. When the early morning light is beautiful, it’s nice to actually find a subject that let me take advantage of the lighting.
Excellent shots, now I need to get a Tamron 150-600mm to replace my Sigma 175-500mm 🙂
Stunning Mike – truly stunning.
Thanks, Dan. I am amazed actually by how well it came out–it was a long distance shot at the max range of my telephoto zoom lens.
What a great shot! I love those “Eagle Eyes” – so penetrating
Thanks. The eagle can look pretty fierce with those eyes.
A really beautiful portrait, Mike. The eyes have it!
Thanks, Gary. The eyes are truly amazing. i took the shot from a pretty good distance and I was actually a bit surprised how sharp the eyes look, even with a fair amount of cropping of the image.
Stunning photos, Mike — there’s something ethereal about the glow of light on his bill.
Thanks, Jet. Early morning light is really special and I think that’s what caused the glow that you noted.
What wonderful photos! I just had the wonderful good fortune to see my very first eagles in the wild — an adult and a juvenile – at a preserve near Lakeland, FL. What a thrill it was!
The way I look at it, any day I see a bald eagle is wonderful and doubly so if I can get a shot of it.
That first shot is stunning Mike, really love the light in these shots.
Thanks, Marco. It was early morning light and I was happy that the eagle was high enough in the tree that the rays reached it.
Beautiful photos Mike!
WOW!
Thanks, Sue. I shot this from a distance, but managed to nail the focus for a change.
