I don’t paint, but if I did, I’ve love to be able to paint graphic images like this American Robin (Turdus migratorious) that I photographed in the snow earlier this month at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Virginia.

Almost looks surrreal. Nice image. M :’)
The stark white snowy background is definitely surreal–I get a kind of zen-like vibe when I look at the image.
That would make an awesome painting. Do you ever sell photos to artists to be used in artwork?
I haven’t yet sold photos for use like that, though I do have a friend who is a professional photographer who was contacted by an artist who wanted to use one of her images.
Mike, really nice. I like that you didn’t clone out the twigs at the upper right corner. If you did, we might not realize the robin was in the snow as opposed to just superimposed on a white background! Regarding this making a nice painting, have you ever explored your painterly options in post-processing. I know in Elements there are several filters that give a photography the look of a painting and you could add a texture that would give it that look too. I am doing this more and more to my photos as I love the endless creative avenues post-processing lets me explore.
I actually am processing the photos in Elements and may have to check out those filters. As you guessed, I deliberately left in the branches of the plant sticking out of the snow.
Love the photo, robins have always meant spring to me…The robins in my garden are starting to build nests so I know the seasons are starting to change.
Just a beautiful, beautiful photo, Mike!!
Thanks, Judy. It’s one of my recent favorite shots.
Beautiful Mike, the robin is even reflected in the snow!
Thanks, Chris. I thought I noticed a faint reflection, but wasn’t sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me.
No tricks… it’s there. I really like the simplicity and artistic quality of your image.
Most of my images tend to be “realistic” in their approach, but some of them are “artsy” and appeal to a different part of my being. One of the coolest things about photography is that it lets me be as creative or technical as I want to be, depending on my mood or the subject.
I agree. I like its minimalistic look!
Perfect! Definitely worthy of a delicate watercolor.
This is a beautiful image. Never mind the watercolour, I think it would be great as a framed photograph. Amelia
Thanks. I don’t make prints of my photos very often, but this might be an exception to that general practice.
