During the winter, the American Robins (Turdus migratorius) in my area switch to eating berries rather than worms and this robin seemed happy to have found a nice patch. As you can see in the second shot, however, the robin gave me some pretty strong indications that it did not want to be bothered.

It’s amazing how different they look to our European Robin. I’ve got a couple in the garden.. we have lots of berries at this time of year.
That bird has attitude.
I love the intensity of colours in your first image, Mike, and the robin’s open beak, ready to gobble a berry!
That’s what I’d call a hard stare. The berries look like they might be Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia.)
Great photo composition, Mike. I can almost feel the bird’s anticipation!
I think he didn’t want to share his berries? Outstanding photos Mike! 🙂
Did or didn’t? I vote for the latter. Feel free to delete this comment after you edit/update the post.
Did not…nice catch, Walter.
Hmm … that looks a lot like the Canadian robin
Priceless photos of this great bird, it’s great also to become more familiar with the N.American birds, our Robin here is not as robust as yours, but we love them too.
Your robin seems more exotic to me than ours. It’s fascinating how large a role that geography plays in our thinking of what is “normal” or “common.”
Yes, and what a variety!
A couple of really great captures with some very nice compositions.
Thanks, David. The bushes where the robins were feeding were pretty thick, so it was a little tough to get an unobstructed shot, but I tend to be persistent and eventually managed.
Ouch, angry bird! Great shot.
