In this transitional time of the year, mornings are often frosty and ice forms in some areas of the marsh in beautiful patterns that look like crystal flowers. Spring is not far off and soon these ice flowers will be replaced by the real thing.

so pretty!
What interesting patterns
Almost like dragonfly wings. Won’t be long until they reappear Mike 😀
These are beautiful shots-the lighting was perfect for ice. When it comes to ice crystals I always end up with more questions than answers.
I can’t figure out how and why the ice forms in patterns like this–I’ve noticed it before but never bothered to take photos of the ice “flowers.”
what beautiful patterns! Yet to see them in real life – maybe next winter! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks. It’s hard to believe that winter is not over for us here in Northern Virginia. Snow is forecast for tomorrow evening.
Very cool. There’s beauty at every turn!
Thanks. Definitely cool (and I have no idea how they are formed,)
Very nice, and so unusual.
Really unusual
