After endless gray winter days, the beauty of a sunny day seemed magnified and the vivid colors of this mallard duck looked even brighter. I love the shade of blue of the feathers that show through when the ducks are in flight, especially when they are taking off and landing.

[…] I was browsing WP and came across the blog of nature photographer Mike Powell. This picture of a flying mallard duck was absolutely fascinating. Look at the colours! Also that afternoon I had been visiting some art […]
Fascinating shot and colors. This inspired me to make an abstract art quilt (work in progress) http://fromtheboudoir.wordpress.com/2013/03/18/mallards-and-mondrian/ Greetings from Germany, Jule
That is really cool. I am glad you got some inspiration from the photo. As I have transitioned from working full-time to part-time, photography has more than filled my extra time. I’d love to see what the quilt looks like when it is done. I also happen to like the work of Mondrian. There is a beauty and simplicity in his work that is absent in some other types of modern art.

I am glad that you enjoyed the photos. I love trying to capture wildlife in all of its aspects. Mallards are common where I live, but I am learning that there is real beauty in the commonplace ordinary creatures that inhabit our daily lives.
