As I was seated in my car at a stoplight, I glanced across the intersection at the traffic in the oncoming lanes and was delighted to spot a giant dragonfly on the side of a U-Haul truck. I grabbed my camera off of the passenger seat where it was seated and managed to take this photo before the lights changed.
In case you are viewing this and cannot read the words on the graphic, it say “#105 Venture Across Canada, British Columbia, A Secret Urban Wilderness/Un Coin Sauvage Et Secret En Ville, Burn Bog.” According to its website, Burns Bog is “a raised bog ecosystem covering approximately 3,000 hectares of the Fraser River delta between the south arm of the Fraser River and Boundary Bay” in the greater Vancouver area of British Columbia. The site claims that the bog is the largest undeveloped urban landmass in North America at 8,000 acres.
I think that my eyes are so finely tuned to recognizing the shape of a dragonfly that I manage to spot them in the most unlikely places, like on the side of a U-Haul truck.

Great eye, Mike! Dragonflies are special to me. That’s why I admire your pics. A zebra represents my rare cancer~when I sold my tiny home to move closer to the cancer center my hiking “tribe” came to help. The Uhaul I rented had a HUGE zebra painted on it and it was all about a place in Idaho I had been and loved! There’s my sign! What a joy to see a huge dragonfly in traffic!
Thanks so much for sharing your story. I didn’t realize that UHaul trucks had such large graphics on the sides in addition to the company logos. I’ll be keeping my eye out now for them. 🙂
You’re welcome! I hesitated sharing such a lengthy comment. I thank you for accepting it! Since January I have “eyed” many Uhauls now! Take care! 🙂
For what it is worth, I really like long comments. “Likes” are nice, but don’t provide any insight into the impact that my words or photos may have had on a viewer. A lot of the time, I share what I am thinking and feeling and I really appreciate it when someone like you takes the time to share a personal reaction.
Thank you, Mike! I share the same sentiments! I feel “likes” are impersonal and remind me too much of why I left social media, just my experience. I’m glad to know this for the future too!
😁😁
Interesting to see that as my daughter prepares for a cross-country move to British Columbia. She won’t be renting a U-Haul, though. LOL
Oh Wow! We visited British Columbia a couple years ago and were amazed with how beautiful it was. Truly loved it. Hope your daughter does too.
Yes, it is a beautiful part of the country. We visited BC when my daughter was 15 and she told me then she wanted to live there one day. It’s a long way away, but I’m sure she’ll love it.
Oh my! My son said the same thing when we were there, and he was 18 at the time. He still talks about it. Guess we will see.
Wow! One never knows where they will find a dragonfly! 🙂
I love that kind of serendipity in my life. 🙂
Yes! 😊
