Do you remember the first blog post that you ever wrote? In my first blog posting on July 7, 2012, I featured a photo of a Blue Dasher dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis). Every year since then whenever I see my first Blue Dashers of the season, I recall my excitement I experienced in being able to photograph that first dragonfly. I did not realize at that time how “addicted” I would get to photographing these beautiful little creatures.
I spotted this handsome male Blue Dasher this past Tuesday at the edge of a small pond at Jackson Miles Abbott Wetland Refuge.

Gorgeous.
I looked and as expected, I’ve deleted my first blog-post! One of the first likes came from Jake and I was surprised we’d gone back THAT far, and the other like was a blogger who still follows me. Two of the early posts were reblogs of Damien’s poems. I didn’t meet you that early but we go back a fair way too. I never dreamt of the friendships that would eventuate despite the lousy first post 🙂
As a non-blogger, merely a follower, I cannot even begin to fully appreciate the thrill of your first post. What I can, and do, fully appreciate is the immense pleasure that your beautiful photography brings to Benjamin and myself. He will love this Blue Dasher dragonfly, especially those gorgeous eyes! Thank-you, Mr. Mike!!
Blogging has been part of my daily life the last 6+ years. It has served as a creative outlet that allows me to express myself in my words and in my photos. It also has provided me a way to connect with folks in so many different places as I share some of the beauty that I manage to observe. I am always thrilled to get feedback from you and from Benjamin. Thanks.
It is quite something to go back to your first post and see how it all began! The dragonfly’s eyes are so entrancing! Love it!
Life is funny that way–you make a decision and you never quite know where it will lead. It’s been almost seven years, but I remember so well when my friend sat down with me and helped me set up my blog.
Glad that your friend encouraged you! Wow on 7 years, it’s been 4 for me since I just thought oh why not give it a try. Never realizing how rewarding it would be! 🙂
I’m so glad that the first blog post set you into this creative habit and led me to find you and your blog. The interactions and creative community is one of the things I enjoy most about blogging. Your blog posts have also taught me a great deal about the minibeasts and critters I might encounter living here.
Bet your captures of the blue dasher have improved immensely over the years!
Great photo.
