When they are perched in the open or at the end of bare branches, Bald Eagles are not hard to spot. When they are hidden deeper in the trees, though, it can be a real challenge to see them, like this Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) that I came upon on 8 December at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

Hidden, but I think I’d be amazed at what all he can see.
I totally agree, Dan. An eagle’s eyesight and reactions are so much better than mine that I am thankful every time when I spot an eagle before it takes off into the air.
It always gives me such a thrill to see a Bald Eagle. They are making quite a comeback in Tennessee. We have a nesting pair on Norris Lake I used to occasionally see one or the other … often soaring over the lake.
I too am thrilled whenever I see a Bald Eagle. In the Washington DC area where I live, it is not uncommon to see them along the Potomac River.
