Where do you find wildlife when you are in an urban area like Vienna, Austria, which I am visiting for work this week? I had some free time this past weekend and I took a long walk along the Donaukanal (Danube Canal). The natural landscape along the canal was not very inspiring, but I couldn’t help but notice the colorful graffiti everywhere. Much of this “art” was poorly done and consisted on tags that had been crudely executed by some individual or group, sometimes defacing a much more beautiful piece.
I came across several wildlife-themed pieces that were really well done that I wanted to share. Some of the wildlife depicted is realistic, while other creatures are more fanciful.

It is quite surprising to see this wildlife pieces in graffiti art!
I really love well done street art, thanks for sharing a bit of Vienna.
The osprey and owl are excellent. This person has talent!
It’s pretty amazing the kinds of detail and shading that was visible in the paintings of those birds. They were obviously done by someone with a really skillful hand and eye.
We lived in Holland in 1973 there wasn’t any graffiti anywhere. When we went back in 1982, we were surprised to see it everywhere. Particularly in the public transportation areas. It’s not as bad as Rio, where there is literally graffiti as high as you can reach on a building and as low as one could reach leaning over the top of a building. There was graffiti on sacred statues and churches. I felt that if the government and the people don’t care for their buildings especially their religious buildings, there is no way they are going to care about me.
I don’t know what the policy is here in Vienna, but most of the graffiti that I have seen has been restricted to a few areas, like the walls along the canals. Fortunately there is not much in most public areas.
Great images of impressive artistic achievement, and right there on the urban walls of Vienna. M 🙂
There was an amazing array of talent on display. I don’t know if the authorities encourage it or simply turn a blind eye. Some of the pieces I saw would have taken a pretty good amount of time to produce.
