I’m happy to see that some insects are still with us despite the cooling autumn weather. On Friday, I spotted this gorgeous metallic green Six-spotted Tiger Beetle (Cicindela sexguttata) on a fallen log at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Virginia.

He’s very metallic!
That characteristic makes this beetle easy to spot, but they tend to be a bit skittish, which poses definite challenges for getting a decent shot.
Great catch. Great shot.
What an amazing beetle and a great shot of it!
What a handsome beetle!
Thanks, Sally. Normally I see these little guys earlier in the year and it was such a treat to see the sun reflecting off the shiny body on Friday (and to be able to move in close for a shot).
They move really fast. How did you get it to hold still? Great color!
They do move really fast, Sue. He started to move away and I used a bit of a dried leaf to redirect him back toward me and then got lucky when he stopped for a second.
