Early one morning last week at Huntley Meadows Park, I watched and waited as a Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) sought to catch some breakfast. He was successful and I left the scene equally satisfied when I captured this image.

Gorgeous shot! Herons are such beautiful birds!
Thanks. Herons are beautiful and powerful, but what amazes me the most is their intense concentration, which you can see in the eyes of the heron I photographed.
And satisfied you should be ;-). Sometimes i can watch a Great Blue who appears to be ready to strike …for the LONGEST time … without ever seeing him catch a thing. Nice shot!
Thanks. I too have spent amazingly long periods of times with my eyes on a motionless heron. Usually the heron is more patient than I am. Even worse, the heron often strikes without warning and I am too slow in reacting to capture the brief flurry of action (or the heron turns its back on me after the catch).
Nice!
