Through the trees I spotted a small group of White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) consisting of a larger doe and some smaller deer—there seemed to be no buck. The deer were foraging for food, picking a few remaining berries from some thorny bushes and poking about on the ground. One of the deer appeared to be keeping watch and periodically would stare right at me. After a few minutes at that one spot, the deer moved on and so did I.

What a beauty!
They look good and healthy. They’re having a rough time of it up here this winter, I’m afraid. Nice shots!
Beautiful shots. The deer in the central photo looks as though it might be posing for you. I find deer to be completely charming and am disappointed they have not yet visited my garden.
Fantastic series, I love the third picture with the deer looking at the camera. Really Nice.
I love deer! Finally got my 70-200 – now to get an extender! There’s no sense in getting a longer lens at this time since I’m mainly portraits. Haven’t even had a chance to really play with it yet, and I got it in Dec! :O
I suspect the pickings are starting to get a bit slim about now, but they seem to be still in pretty good condition.
Hiw lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Beautiful.
Thanks, Marie. There is an awful lot of luck involved, but it also requires me spending a lot of time outdoors, trying to be ready when the lucky moment arrives.
