Squirrels scurry about so fast or hide in the shadows of the trees so often that it is frequently tough for me to get clear shots of them. This Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) took a break from his work to bask in the sun and enjoy a snack (I think it was an acorn) and I was able to snap a few shots of him.
I particularly like the way the light fell on the squirrel and how it illuminated the fluffy tail. In addition, I can’t help but like the squirrel’s cute pose and facial expression. He seemed to be enjoying his little snack.

I love these little guys
Great image, but I must admit I find those greedy “Rackers” very debatable. They pinch absolutely every seed and all the goodies for the birds, now matter how good it’s secured, In fact they are a bloody nuisance in the UK, the red squirrel has no chance to survive where this little monsters settle down. In Norfolk they have sanctuaries to rescue the red ones now. I habe been watching the grey squirrels for weeks now, with a laughing and a crying eye. Their behaviour is more rattish than suirellisch. 🙂 😦
Fabulous portrait. Squirrels are adorable. Where we lived in Scotland there were red squirrels (endangered because of invasive greys) and they were adorable because of how petite they were and because of their tufted ears. The greys are very cute too though and tend to be happier around people.
And who said it was impolite to take photos of eating? Oh wait, maybe that was people. Great shot.
I think it would be better to shoot some than just aim for good shots. They are becoming a pest, they are not meant to be in Europe, it was a big mistake to import them. 🙂 😦
I like watching squirrels. They do seem to sit in the sun to warm up.
The backlighting is great in this photo. It really enhances the shot.
Our squirrels are very shy too. Along the coast in Bournemouth though, they’re very tame. A bag of nuts will get you as many close up shots as you like. They’ll even take the food right out of your hand. They are, however, rather fat.
