Like a sprinter, this Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) seems to be lunging forward toward a finish line, pushing hard to be the first to break that invisible tape.

If he were here, he’d be lunging even harder, trying to break the invisible ice! Hope you’re staying warm and cozy in between (and during) your daily excursions into this amazing marsh that you’ve adopted. I wish I’d known about it while I lived there (I was within walking distance of the Vienna Metro station). Is this to be your Christmas goose, or are there more to follow? Have a great one, Mike!
Thanks. I think there are more geese to come (others complain there are too many geese there, but not me). The weather got up to around 70 degrees yesterday, so staying warm was certainly not a problem on the day of the winter solstice. I am still working three days a week, so I don’t get to the marsh daily, usually two or three times a week, but manage to get enough photos to sustain me through the non-shooting days. Thanks for the Christmas greetings. Best wishes to your and yours too.
It looks like he’s standing on the very tips of his feet.
It’s interesting to see how they slow down to lessen the impact of hitting the water. This was the split second before landing.
