The squirrels in my neighborhood are very busy now as they scurry about getting ready for winter. This particular Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) paused several times to enjoy a leisurely snack. Rather than devour the treat on the ground, he would leap up onto this posing stand and delicately nibble away. He almost seemed to be aware that I was photographing him and periodically would change his pose to give me a different look.
I guess that I lucked into photographing a squirrel with modeling experience (and great hair).

He looks happy too. They are a very familiar sight for me. I have a (very productive) black walnut tree in my yard and half the squirrels in town stop by for a snack.
Sounds like the posing squirrels are appreciative of the walnuts.
It seems to me that he’s offering you a sample of his hard-earned savory treat. Did you offer him something in return? Ours are especially fond of (unsalted) peanuts…
Alas, this was a neighbor’s yard and I am not sure that he would have appreciated me feeding the squirrels in his yard. Around here, folks seem to be divided between those who find squirrels cute and those who think they are nothing but furry-tailed rats.
Such a character! God I love squirrels.
Great hair indeed. And a prime location to make a wonderful photograph. Love it.
Some of the best photos I’ve seen of a gray squirrel. I especially like the first one.
Thanks. I suspect that most people don’t bother to photograph squirrels, but I think they are both cure and interesting.

Very cute, love the photos.
Thanks, Charlie. I love working squirrels at work and at play.
