There seemed to be spiders everywhere at the marsh today. When I arrived in the morning, there were webs all over the place, though not the kind that orbweavers make—plants were simply covered with web-like material. Later in the day I saw all kinds of spiders scurrying along the boardwalk and even flying through the air in a process known as ballooning.
I saw a lot of one of my favorite type of spiders, the jumping spider. I am still downloading my images from today, but here is an advance preview, an image of a jumping spider that had crawled onto part of the railing of the boardwalk. I love the details of the spider, especially the eyes, and even the peeling paint of the railing.

You got a lot of detail in that one. Can’t say as it makes it any prettier though:)
“Pretty” is not an adjective that I’d use to describe one of these spiders or, for that matter, any other spider. Still, those eyes (all of them) are amazing nonetheless, and this one has a spot of color to add a little interest.
I agree with all of that.
I like his orange “fangs” if that’s what they are. It looks like he’s all decked out for Halloween.
I think that is what they are. I also managed to photograph one with turquoise fangs.
I’m not fond of spiders, but this one is almost cute. Maybe it’s the big green eyes.
Jumping spiders are my favorites, when it comes to photographing spiders. There is something really special about those huge eyes (and the three other pairs of eyes). Normally I have trouble finding them, but I saw probably a dozen or more yesterday.
Nicely photographed, Mike! As you know, I’m no fan of spiders.. Although I have to admit, jumping spiders are probably (I don’t know for sure because I’ve never seen one IRL) less scary than others. Something with the two big front eyes 🙂
Aww, nothing beats a jumping spider’s sweet face! Gorgeous photo.

I love jumping spiders, though, alas, I have not seen one in quite a while.
