Generally when I encounter Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias), they are very focused. They seem willing to stand in one place for a long period of time, staring intently at the water, waiting for the optimal moment to strike.
In contrast, this heron seemed to be almost daydreaming as he gazed off into the distance. Had something caught his attention there? Was he merely taking a break? Was he thinking about something else, or imagining he was somewhere else?
I’ll never know the answer to those question, but I can be happy that he was willing to stay in one place long enough for me to get this shot.

Nice shot. He let you get quite close, by the looks.
Thanks. I was coming from behind at an angle and I think that was what allowed me to get relatively close.
Actually, Mike I think he was eyeing you.
That’a a keeper! Do you ever blow these photos up for display on your walls? Do you have problems choosing which ones to keep?
Thanks for all of your encouragement, Sue. Strange as it sounds, I have yet to print any of my photos. My friend, Cindy Dyer,a fellow blogger and professional photographer, is always after me to try to organize a little show and has offered to help me select some photos to print. It would be really cool to see how some of these would look in print and then I might have a dilemma of choosing which ones to hang on my walls.
