Whenever my neighbor has new flowers popping up in her garden, she invariably invites me to come and photograph them, and this close-up shot of a blue delphinium is my newest capture.
The neighbor in question is Cindy Dyer, a noted flower photographer and fellow blogger, and I thinks she almost always chooses photogenic flower species to plant. Check out her blog to see some gorgeous shots of all kinds of flowers. (She also is the one who got me started shooting regularly and has been an endless source of inspiration and encouragement for my photography.)
I love the beautiful color of this flower, which is pretty small, and the different textures that you can see in this shot.

I’m not much of a flower person but that is one species that caught my eye and I even ended up planting some.
Delphinium is an old favorite-well worth setting up the tripod for.
It’s a new favorite for me. I did have to set up the tripod to get this shot. The biggest problem I had was getting low enough (my tripod had a center column, which keeps me from getting really low).
lovely! I just captured a few delphinium peekers during my memorial day hike. Besides trillium, they were the only other flower in bloom at 5400′ elevation. a neat sight indeed!
You were hiking at 5400′–the very thought leaves me out of breath. I love the blue colors of the delphiniums that I saw, though I suspect that they come in other colors too.
