Who knew that a beaver could be so cute while he is eating?
I am still working on putting together a series of photos of the local beavers, but thought I’d post another one of my favorite images in the interim. I was surprised that the beaver did not notice me (or simply didn’t care) when I was taking this photo. Not only was I looking straight at him, but I also got as close to the level of the ice as I could to get this low-angle shot.

What super pictures, Mike. Every beaver I’ve ever (briefly) seen immediately vanishes – always thought that was a learned reaction after being hunted almost to extinction. Way cool!
Thanks, Joe. I’m beginning to think that one of the best ways to get wildlife photos is to catch the birds or animals at a time when they are so focused on eating that they let down their guard a little. Of course, implementing that strategy is not as easy as articulating it.
The low angle and reflection really add to the photo.
What time of day are you seeing these beavers Mike? I’ve spent many a cold, soggy morning watching the sun come up over beaver ponds.
Surprisingly this was in mid-afternoon, about three o’clock or so, if I remember right. In other seasons, I’ve seen the beavers only a few times and it was always either really early in the morning or near dusk.
