Earlier this week I posted a photograph of a Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) that I encountered while walking along the Potomac River here in Virginia. As I looked over the images from that day I came across another one that I really like. The heron’s posture and his feathers make this image stand out for me, especially the way the feathers merge with his reflection in the water.
It’s probably clear to many readers that Great Blue Herons are among my favorite birds and that I never tire of finding opportunities to photograph them.

Super shot!
Thanks, Victor. I appreciate your encouragement and supportive comments.
A beautiful shot, well done.
You’re really taking some amazing photos of birds!
Thanks, Carol. I started getting more serious about shooting about eight months ago with a friend, a professional, who loves photographing flowers and insects. I started with those subjects and then starting following my own interests, which led me to more bugs than flowers. As we got later into fall, I’ve started with birds and have had some success, mostly because of luck and persistence. There is such beauty in birds that they may sustain my interest through the entire winter, since Virginia doesn’t have really harsh winters.
I love birds too, almost as much as flowers… 🙂 Looking forward to more of your photos of birds.
They’re one of my favorites. I was actually on a Girl Scout outing to a refuge. One of the women said the “great blue heron was so ugly.” She obviously didn’t look closely or something.
Beautiful
I think they’re beautiful birds. You’re lucky to be able to see them year round.
