On my last night in Vienna, Austria, I decided to go for a walk through the city center to see how it was decorated for Christmas. There were lots of lights everywhere. Using available light, I took some photos of those lights and of some of Vienna’s famous landmarks. With a tripod, I would have done better, but I took advantage of various objects to brace myself and my camera for some fairly lengthy exposures. Here is an eclectic set of shots from my walk on a very cold Vienna evening.

Great set of nite shots – the lites above in the second last one provide a nice effect.
Thanks, Lyle. They were very unusual. i don’t think that I have ever seen Christmas lights like that anywhere else.
Reblogged this on RD Revilo.
I am glad that you liked the posting enough to re-blog it.
thank you…good luck to you and your blog…peace
I love the lights 🙂 Very Christmasy! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Beautiful country! Don’t you HATE carrying a tripod around. I sometimes force myself, and if I don’t, I kick myself in the butt for not having it.
It’s a pain carrying a tripod, but I missed having one with me when I tried to take these photos. I knew I could not hand hold the images, so I had to lean myself or the camera onto something, which made framing the images a challenge.
Such a beatiful place! Have you ever tried a monopod? Not quite as stable as a tripod but much easier to carry and relatively cheap. If you get one be prepared for many questions-I’ve been asked if it was everything from a stun gun to a fishing pole.
I think I will try one when I am home. When I am travelling, especially internationally, I try to be as light as I possibly can. As long as I don’t have my DSLR with me, I can probably get away with a lightweight one.
