When I accidentally flushed this enormous Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) last week at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, it flew to another tree and tried to hide from me.
Note to woodpecker—you need to find a much bigger tree if you want to avoid being seen.

Hahaha.. so funny LOL LOL 🙂 🙂
Nothing escapes your eye! 🙂
I have found that the more often I take photographs, the more I see what is going on around me. Some famous photograph (I can’t remember who off the top of my head) once noted that photography changes the way that you see, even when you don’t have a camera in your hand.
That makes sense!
Woodpeckers always do that. As soon as you try photographing them, they move to the back side of the tree. Nice shot.
That is most often the case, kenne. I was thinking the woodpecker would poke is bill out on the other side of the tree, but it never did.
Wow.. Such a beautiful capture. Keep Glittering, from TGA by Misha 😊👍
Thanks, Misha.
He’s a pretty big boy. Great shot, Mike.
