Every monarch needs a crown and this female Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon) seemed to be wearing a leafy one yesterday at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
Maybe I should be calling her a Belted Queenfisher. 🙂

Nice creative shot.
Thanks, kenne. When the kingfisher landed in the little tree almost directly in front of me in the distance, I was standing in the open. There was no way I could move more than a couple of inches to the side without spooking the bird, so I did the best I could and framed the shot so the bird’s eyes and bill were pretty much visible. Sometimes creativity is the only option available or is forced on us by the conditions. 🙂
He’s a handsome rascal.
Good one! 🙂
Great way to take advantage of a setup, Mike!
Yes, I think it the crown fits it should be worn 😉
