The skies were heavily overcast on Monday at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, so colors didn’t “pop” at all. However, I really like the almost monochromatic feel of this image I captured of a young Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), with just the slightest bit of yellow showing around its talons.

Great shot.
Thanks. I was happy to capture an unobstructed shot of the young eagle. Most of the other eagles that I saw that day were at least partially hidden behind branches.
Cracking photograph. Sometimes the washed-out effect works quite well.
My brother is a professional photographer in Australia and he has done studio work with a variety of animals using a white background.
Thanks. I like the “studio”effect too, though i generally like it better when a little more light shines into the bird’s face and illuminates the eye. It’s all kind of a balancing eye and most times you just have to make do with the conditions that you are given when photographing wild creatures.
Isn’t that the truth!
Very nice, Mike. This guy already has his look working for him.
I agree with you, a great shot! Love how poised they are. Looking so confident.
