What was the first thing that you saw when you opened your eyes on Christmas Day? For me, it was the beautiful brown eyes of Freckles, the little Cocker Spaniel that is staying with me over the Christmas weekend while her owners are visiting family. Freckles lived in my house for over a year in the past, so she is totally comfortable with me and with my rabbit.
Freckles is amazingly photogenic—here are some shots of her from the last few days that highlight her soulful eyes.

She’s adorable. I had a cocker spaniel years ago. They have very soulful eyes.
Merry Christmas, Laura. My last dog was a Pit Bull mix, so it is a bit of adjustment to have a smaller dog around. She is a bit spoiled when with me–I sort of play the grandparent role.
Cute ! Happy holidays Mike! M:-)
Thanks. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays. and best wishes for a blessed New Year.
I remember her, and she’s just as cute as ever. I like the Christmas lights in the background, but that second photo is really nice. She looks like she’s facing into a bit of a stiff wind.
Merry Christmas, Mike — and Merry Christmas to Freckles, too. Give her a scritch for me.
Thanks so much. Freckles’ owners now live in an apartment in Washington DC and when they are traveling, she usually stays with me. They put her in a doggie day care place one time and she was miserable. She is so sweet. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas Mike and have fun with Freckles. She is pretty cute.
Thanks, Chris. Alas, in a few days I have to return her to her owners. Over the last three days I have also been caring for three cats, fortunately in their house–I am not sure how Freckles reacts to cats. Merry Christmas to you and to Wade and Bengie. Although some have already moved on from Christmas, in my church Christmas is the start of the celebration (the whole 12 days of Christmas thing).
Beautiful photos of a beautiful pooch! Cockers really do have the greatest eyes. What a nice arrangement for you both and I’m sure Freckles’ owners rest easy knowing she is with you.
