As I was walking to work through the streets of Vienna Friday morning, I passed by the Spanish Riding School in the Hofburg Palace and was thrilled to get a glimpse of some of the world-famous Lippizaner stallions. They were mostly hidden in their stalls, but occasionally one of these beautiful horse would pop its head out or a door would open briefly. I was also able to snap some quick photos as one of the horses was being prepared and was then walked across an open area.
Perhaps someday I will see a performance of the Lippizaners, but for now I am happy to have caught a glimpse of them on my last working day in Vienna for this trip.

Beautiful horses! Great photographs, Mike
How wonderful that you got some glimpses of them like that! I was entranced with your photos and the horses are so beautiful!
It was great that I happened to see them on the one day of the weak that I carried my superzoom camera with me to work. It is too much hassle to carry over my big camera, because I am also carrying two laptops for work. I had only a narrow doorway through which to shoot and I didn’t have many options for framing my shots, so I was pretty happy with the way they came out.
Oh yes, you should be happy Mike! It was so lovely to see your photos!
So beautiful. Thanks for sharing this, Mike.
Fabulous shots, Mike. They look absolutely divine!
Thanks, Dina. Even from a distance the horses looked majestic.
What a great treat on your way to work! I especially like the second photo–horse and rider getting ready for their work.
Thanks, Ellen. It was really cool to be in a hotel in the center of town and I was actually working in a section of the Hofburg Palace, which is why I happened to be walking past the Spanish Riding School.
Great photographs, Mike! The Spanish riding school was the only reason why I visited Vienna 🙂 I really recommend you visiting one of the shows!
Thanks, Camilla. I’d have to try to remember to get tickets well before my next trip.
