The National Zoo in Washington D.C. is a wonderful place to explore and has the added bonus of having no admission fee. On Monday I wandered around the zoo for several hours, visiting some of my favorite animals and taking a lot of photos.
Here are some of my initial favorite images: a lioness, a cheetah, a beaver, and an elephant.

Great images. You’ve really captured the variety of textures and patterns in these creatures. What a great resource you have access to. We visited National Zoo back in July and I was impressed with the changes they have made since my previous visit there in 1995.
Thanks, Laura. Every time I go to the National Zoo, they have changed some exhibit. It seems like many people want to spend only a moment or two with each animal. I prefer to spend a much longer time to observe them, which helps me get some of my shots.
