I knew that yesterday was the day of the full moon, so I was disappointed to see that it was already pretty high in the sky when I was driving home from work. I was surprised and pleased this morning as I was taking out the trash to see that the moon was out and was really bright. I rushed into the house, grabbed my camera and tripod and took some initial shots. I must confess that these are the first outdoor shots that I have taken in my slippers. My exposures were not right when I looked at the images on the computer, so I made some adjustments and rushed back outdoors. I blindly set the camera on manual and made some guesses on appropriate settings. I went through that cycle twice more before I got an image that I judged was ok. It’s not perfect (I need to experiment some more on settings), but it looks reasonably close to what my eyes were seeing a few short minutes ago.

Great shot! I saw the same thing when I went out to warm up the car, in my slippers! I ran back to grab my camera, I haven’t had a chance to see if any are good yet! So surprising to see a full moon like that first thing in the morning!
I love those kinds of surprises. I don’t have any experience with this kind of a shot, so figuring out the right exposure was not easy.
Excellent picture of the moon–even the shadows show up! Love it.
Thanks. It was a bit of a challenge to get an image that showed the detail. The moon was so bright that my initial exposures showed a solid white ball. Photoshop Elements helped a little too, but it can’t bring out elements if they are lost in areas that are totally black or totally white.
😀
I like the effect with the branches.
The effect was not really an attempt to be artistic but was imposed by the limitations of the front yard of my townhouse (i.e. there was not much room to choose a better angle). Still, I like the way it turned out.
Such atmosphere! Intrigue. Wow.
Dramatic and powerful!
Thanks. I was happy that I was able to get a decent image of the beauty of that moon
Hauntingly beautiful, Mike.
I didn’t know it was going to be a full moon last night, until it reached in the window though and pulled me outside. While I was out there, I heard things running through the leaves in the backyard, but didn’t hear anything howling…so I figured I was safe. Just deer no doubt.
Thanks. Hopefully it was just deer. I read somewhere that statistically more strange things happen during the period of the full moon than at other times. Who knows?
That’s funny-I went through the same thing last night. The moon was surrounded by clouds here though, and i was trying to get the clouds as well as the moon. Not quite as easy as it sounds.
