It may sound like a new summer beverage sensation, but the title is meant to be literal.
I captured this shot of a green heron just as the rain was beginning to fall this afternoon. I was at the same pond at a local garden where I had previously seen a juvenile green heron (and that was right after the rain). Maybe green herons like to come out to play in the rain—I’ll have to remember that in the future.
There really wasn’t enough light for a high quality image, but I think that I managed to capture the unique look and style of the green heron.
(I also got some photos of a juvenile green heron this afternoon but I’ll save them for another posting.)

Love this guy. We have Great Blue Herons, but I have yet to be able to snap a pic of one.
I love looking at all your photographs. I dream of the day when I can get myself a fantastic camera. 🙂
I find this guy to be pretty cool too. In terms of photo equipment, shoot with what you have. It doesn’t take lots of fancy equipment to take some pretty awesome shots.
Love the photo and love the title, too! I gotta get out and shoot with you soon. Staying indoors and working so much is really getting me down. 😦
He’s a beauty. I am amazed at how tolerant your Green Herons are of photographers. The one at the pond in my backyard takes flight before I get within 100 feet of him.
Rain was falling as I approached him, so maybe that muffled the sounds. In addition, this is a man-made pond so there is not the kind of undergrowth that would get in the way of me being able to use the full length of my telephoto (I was using the 250mm length of my 55-250mm zoom for this shot.)
I saw a blue heron today, but I was in my kayak, and my son didn’t know where he’d left his small waterproof cam, so we hadn’t taken it along. (of course I would just have been disappointed with the quality anyway…)….
I do love your images of Green Herons. I didn’t even know there was such a thing until you posted them. I think I’d like to make a drink called a green heron on the rocks though…you’re right that it sounds like a great name for a drink!
Send me the recipe when you come up with one! I have some more shots of a juvenile green heron that I’ll be posting soon. Stay tuned…..
